This project involved the construction of a new 800m2 extension to the existing Food Manufacturing facility at Kilmore Quay, Co. Wexford. The project consists of the constrution of a new cooking line at the seafood plant along with the construction of a new plant mezzanine and alternations to the existing warehouse and packaging areas. The project also included significant external works including parking area, loading yard and HGV turning areas. This complex project involved significant sub-structure works due to very poor ground conditions in marshy coastal area. The sub-structure solution involved 300mm and 450mm diameter CFA piles to depth of up to 10m with a cast in-situ ground beam and slab arrangement to carry the heavy industrial loads for the new equipment.
The works also involved upgrades to the existing drainage system to separate and contain the high and low risk Listeria areas providing drainage sumps, non-return valves and trapped systems to ensure no cross contamination. The constrained delivery programme meant that MPA along with the other design team members and Contractor had to carry out design, value engineering and preparation of construction documents within a tight time frame to ensure that the building was constructed and operational within a six month tender and construction window.
