Leisure Development, Grennan College

MPA provided full Civil / Structural Engineering Services as part of a Project Management Services including management of sub consultants (Architect, Fire / DAC & M&E). MPA are also acting as PSDP for the project. This project involved the construction of a new 1,100m2 leisure centre and gym at Grennan College Thomastown. The project included a competition standard basketball court and gym area along with all associated carparking and new access road around the college. The works involved the demolition of some existing ancillary buildings attached to the existing school to facilitate the development of a new access route to the gym. MPA were involved in the design and specification of the new traffic management system on the school campus including signage, traffic calming and routing for emergency vehicles.

The building was designed to be a simple multi-functional building for use by the school and the local community including basketball, GAA and soccer clubs. The structure consists of braced steel framed with suspended precast concrete floor. The project presented difficulties associated with the constrained site, on an existing school campus, with a steep access road. Communication within the multi-disciplinary Project Team, Client and Contractor was critical.
