Abbey Community College, Kilkenny

Construction of 3,200m². Standalone 2-storey extension to existing school, provision of new staff and visitors carpark, reorientation of existing grit pitch, alterations to the existing school building, provision of new on-site bus and car set down facilities, new paved external social space, works to existing site entrance and all associated site work. The drainage strategy is based around sustainable principles incorporating permeable paving, infiltration devices and attenuation with outfall to arterial drainage.

The building structure is generally loadbearing masonry with discrete beams and columns including steel, concrete and reinforced hollow block piers. There is a precast concrete 1st floor structure with steel roof. The General Purpose School and Canteen area consists of steel trusses and RC columns to create a large glazed social space linked to the external amphitheatre.
